Biography:
William Wallace is a prominent character best known from the film *Braveheart* (1995), portrayed by Mel Gibson. The film offers a fictionalized account of Wallace's role in the First War of Scottish Independence in the late 13th century.
In *Braveheart*, Wallace is depicted as a Scottish patriot who rises up against the tyrannical English King Edward I ("Longshanks") after personal tragedy. Fueled by a desire for freedom and vengeance, he leads a rebellion against English rule, uniting various Scottish clans.
